The repentance of a hypocrite is itself hypocrisy

This means that a hypocrite, in fact, is always unrepentant, his hypocrisy being consistent, insistent and persistent. A hypocrite does shed tears, copious tears, but these are crocodile tears, originating from anywhere except heart. Hypocrisy is marked by a persevering thoroughness. When a hypocrite is found in a repentant mood, actually he may be dodging you, hoodwinking you, preparing scope for another sly move of his own. So there is every need that one should beware of these hypocrites especially when they are in a softer, and tearful mood. Hardened hypocrisy, in fact, knows no genuine and heartfelt repentance. Repentance, in such a case, is a pose, a mask to be seen through by an intelligent person. In other words, a hypocrite cannot be taken at his words. When he says that he will not be repeating his fault, he may not at all be meaning it. He does not say what he means and does not mean what he says. Hypocrisy is another name for insincerity. Only sincere characters repent sincerely.
